Diabetes Resource Center of Santa Barbara County Kids

The Diabetes Resource Center is a California non-profit 501(c)3
organization that relies on tax deductible donations

THE NEED FOR ACTION IS NOW
This could be the first generation of children that will not outlive their parents. The
prevalence of overweight children aged 6 to 11 has more than doubled in the past 20
years and the rate among adolescents has more that tripled! Latino and other minority
children are especially at risk.

Healthy children are our hope for the future!
The Carpinteria Childhood Obesity Prevention Initiative is making a huge impact reaching
more than 400 children and their families at Canalino Elementary, Aliso Elementary,
Carpinteria Middle School and non-profit sites at Camper Park Trailer Park and Dahlia Court
apartment complex.

With your generous help, we can expand this program to every school in Santa Barbara
County where there is a high percentage of children at risk for early Diabetes. You can mail
a donation of any amount directly to the Diabetes Resource Center or donate securely online:

Your donations make a real difference
As a direct result of the Carpinteria Childhood Obesity Prevention Initiative:
• An empty lot once filled with weeds is now an organic garden producing vegetables.
• Students are using outdoor time to get fit – doing dance, ballet, jump rope and hula-hoop.
• Children who have never participated in organized sports are playing soccer, tennis,
flag football, basketball and volleyball.
• A new cheerleading squad is practicing routines and wearing uniforms they designed
themselves.
• Parents are doing yoga and aerobics, cooking favorite foods in healthy new ways and
being trained as neighbor-to-neighbor, peer-health advocates.
