Project Esperanza

The DRC operates Project Esperanza, a Diabetes Management Center (DMC) located on the grounds of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church, at 21 East Sola Street in Santa Barbara. For current classes, visit our Education Section link.

Program Description
The DMC provides diabetes management, nutrition, and psycho social/emotional support to members of the Santa Barbara community who live with diabetes, and those at-risk for developing this disease.

Program Offerings
To facilitate this program, the Diabetes Resource Center has contracted a Certified Diabetes Educator and Diabetes Nurse Educator to provide diabetes management education, a Registered Dietitian to provide nutritional consultation and food planning, and a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, to lead support groups which will address the day to day needs of persons living with diabetes. Classes in Spanish are also available. In addition our Physician Assistant will offer wellness exams, blood glucose tests and referrals where further treatment is indicated. Dr. Michael Fisher, President of the Diabetes Resource Center, will serve as the resident physician overseeing the DMC.

How to Participate
The DMC is committed to providing quality diabetes management and educational services. Class size is limited. To participate you must register to reserve a space. Do so by calling the Diabetes Resource Center at 687.5586.

What’s the Cost?
Participation is free, due to the generous support of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church and funding by the California Endowment.

Your commitment.
Given the limited class size and waiting list, participants are encouraged to enroll in each of the classes. Early registrants have the added benefit of identifying their initial participation in either the nutrition, psycho-social, or diabetes management components.
