Dr. Fisher witnessed the damaging effects of obesity and diabetes in the community and
founded the Diabetes Resource Center of Santa Barbara seven years ago in response to the
epidemic, working tirelessly to advocate prevention.
He and his partner Dr.Tom Allyn generously donate the office space for the Diabetes
Resource Center of Santa Barbara County. Dr. Fisher is the true visionary behind the DRC and
the driving force. He is unfailingly generous with his time, expertise, and resources.
Born in Brooklyn, New York Dr. Fisher is happily married to his college sweetheart, Leslie. They
are the proud parents of their two sons, Ian and Sean, and their daughter, Danielle and also
have four beautiful grandchildren.

Sugley Chaidez
Director of Community Health and Advocacy Programs
“I have a life long commitment to serving communities with the most need and I believe that
through partnership, every community can be empowered with education, motivation and
purpose so that achieving goals are possible.” -Sugley Chaidez
Sugley is passionate about helping others make realistic lifestyle changes that they can
sustain. She provides workshops and training for community members interested in making
lifestyle choices for healthy living at three levels: personal, familial and community.
Participants receive nutrition education, leadership development and the tools necessary to
help them make better choices more consistently and to teach others how to do the same.
For over 8 years she has dedicated her efforts to working with at-risk populations in the
areas of education, leadership and outreach. Sugley has worked, volunteered and partnered
with multiple non-profit organizations who share her vision of service and empowerment for
disadvantaged communities.
Sugley holds a BA in Human Development with a minor in Health Care Social Issues from the
University of California, San Diego. She has also earned an MA degree in Cultural Perspective
and Comparative Education from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is currently
pursuing a PhD in Education.
